Are you looking to apply for summer internships or even your first post-high school job? It’s time to put together a strong resume with Launch Now!

A resume is a simple, but important tool to quickly communicate your education, work experience and skills to potential employers. Because employers often spend less than ten seconds looking at a resume*, it’s important that your information follows the standard resume format and highlights your unique skills.

What Do I Include?

Your Full Name and Contact Information: At the top of your page you’ll include your full name. Below it you can add your phone number, a professional email address and your city or town.

Summary of Your Career Goals: This is one or two sentences that tell the employer what your professional interests and goals are. You can use your first sentence to describe the skills you have and your long-term career goals. Then tailor the second sentence to relate back to the shorter term goal of getting the job you’re applying for.

Your Experience: Next, you’ll list three relevant examples of professional experience. This could be previous jobs, unpaid learning experiences or volunteer work. You’ll follow the formatting below and list the most recent experience first. If you can, include the impact of your role too.

Your Education: List your education using the format in the example below. You can include academic honors, relevant classes and clubs. You can also include your GPA if it’s over 3.4.

Your Skills and Interests: This is where the Launch Now Skills and Interests Survey comes in. In this section, you’ll list both Hard Skills and Soft Skills. A Hard Skill is a teachable or measurable ability, like using Photoshop or speaking another language. A Soft Skill is an interpersonal trait like empathy, teamwork and communication.

To navigate to your skills in the Launch Now app, open the app and select the person icon on the far right of the yellow toolbar at the bottom of your screen. Complete your Self-Assessment if you haven’t already. Once that’s completed, this page will display a list of adjectives describing your Soft Skills

Putting it all together.
Once you have all the content for your resume ready to go, you can use Google Docs, Microsoft Word or Canva to design the layout. Check the program you’re using for Resume Templates to save time. It can be tempting to add colors, images and decorative fonts, but it’s best practice to stick with traditional fonts like Arial or Times New Roman and exclude images and graphics.
